Course Designed by Gary Player and Ron Kirby
Nestled in the tranquil countryside of Ruimsig, west of Johannesburg, lies one of South Africa's most challenging championship golf courses, Roodepoort Country Club. It is well known and recognised among the top 5 in Gauteng for consistently having the best conditions. The rolling bent grass greens are spectacular and similar to those that the worlds top professionals encounter on the United States Tour. There are 72 bunkers to contend with and seven water hazards offering all handicap golfers a challenge, yet the good golf shot will always be rewarded.

VENUE FEE WAIVER :
The Roodepoort Country Club is the perfect venue for almost any private party or business event.
In these tough times, we're sure you'll be glad that as a member of RCC, you are exempt from venue hire fees.
The ladies are allowed to play on Saturday afternoons, Sunday mornings and they host a "Mixed Open" event on the first Sunday of each month. This event is open to non-members, however it is very well subscribed with most spots being taken up by members. These festive social golfing occasions are always handsomely sponsored, which means generous prizes.
Particularly noteworthy is the encouragement the club gives its juniors. The club's junior section is over 100 strong and is looked after by a specially appointed committee. Roodepoort Country Club prides it on having started the junior leagues in the Gauteng / West Rand region. Golf clinics for juniors are held every Friday, arranged by the residential professionals at the club. The club previously hosted the annual Roodepoort Junior Nationals, which attracted over 250 entries each year. The winner of this event received a sponsored trip to The World Junior Championhips in San Diego in the U.S.A. Past recipients of this sponsorship have been Richard Fulford, Trevor Immelman, Vincent Schutte, Richard Sterne and Charl Swartzel.
It is for its demanding and unusual golf course that RCC first became famous and has remained in the limelight. The course was designed as an 'inland links' and features strongly rolling terrain, large undulating greens, and a relative scarcity of trees associated with links land. There are several strategically used dams on the course, but the overall feel of the layout remains wild and free. It is a big course, exhilarating to play, not least because of the strong winds which typically blow over the open fairways, putting a premium on shot making and strategy.
Since its inception a talking point at RCC has been the greens. These are considerably bigger than what is usually found in SA, and are distinctive in their subtle featuring. The tricky surfaces have justifiably garnered a reputation for being particularly fast and true, a reputation, which has been enhanced by the replanting in of all 18 greens with Crenshaw Bent grass. In any round at Roodepoort, putting becomes an adventure all on it's own, particularly since the design of the slick surfaces affords pin-positions that can be difficult to get at - which often translates into some interesting approach putts.
Both nines at Roodepoort close with par fives so which ever way round one plays, the course finishes with a score-spreading grandstander hole.
The course is well balanced, with good variations of long and short holes. RCC is quite simply a very good course, always in very good condition, and a thrill to play. Not least because one is surprised and beguiled by the very different challenges it offers from those more routinely encountered on our Highveld.

The course was designed by Gary Player and Ron Kirby in 1984.
The area chosen was 80 h.a and this was a gentle north sloping valley. Apart from a few indigenous trees the area was featureless.
Four boreholes were drilled which yielded some 56 250 litres per hour.
The greens plants were Penn Cross bent greens (Augusta National). Fairways, trees and surrounds were kikuyu sprigged.
Approximately 2000 large trees were planted at a cost of R200 000. These indigenous trees were carefully selected, planted and planned for visualisation and desired visual effect.
WATER USAGE :
RCC uses only grey water from Driefontein Sewage Works
All dams and drainage channels built to catch maximum rainwater/run off water; every drop ends in no.14 dam.
The irrigation program is adjusted on a daily basis according to weather patterns.
CHEMICAL USAGE :
The RCC green keeper has completed the official pest control officer course as describe by Dept. of Agriculture.
All fungicides, pesticides, herbicides stored in a separate lockable store, with full record keeping of usage.
Use of microbes, fulvic and humic acid to enhance microbial life in soil - lead to less pesticides and fertilizer use.
FERTILIZER USAGE :
Slow release fertilizer used and 50% organic material are used.
Use in conjunction with soil analysis.
FLORA AND FAUNA :

RCC respects it’s bird breeding areas in the dams. Compilation of a bird list for the course is in progress.
Environmental sensitive havens are left as breeding areas for wildlife e.g. Birds, rabbits, porcupines, barn owls.
